Area cops near top of Denali

Steve Evans-Special to The Daily Times

DENALI NATIONAL PARK, Alaska - Five climbers of the Cops on Top 1999 Denali Expedition; Keith McPheeters and Kent O'Donnell of Farmington; and Hank Bezema, Frank Stevelmans and Paul Kern of the Netherlands, are now in their eighth day of their assault on Denali.

On Monday, Bezema, the lead climber, reported to his wife in a brief phone call that "all is well." The team is using their cellular phone very sparingly to conserve batteries.

The team had a very demanding day Sunday as they advanced up the "Headwall" from 14,200 feet to the ridgeline of the West Buttress at 16,200 feet.
